It took us a while to process the news we received a few weeks ago . . . . . I guess you can say that it knocked the wind right out of our sails. Our "bump in the road" is cancer and it is the reality we are facing. My husband, Ron will be starting chemo and radiation on Monday and has a long road ahead of him. We are optimistic and full of hope for a complete recovery but the journey will be tough.
We will be doing our best to get our orders filled and finish the year of sheep. I am even hoping that we can launch a new series at the end of this year but don't hold me to anything just yet! Gotta take care of my sweetie. . . . . . .he comes first.
Your prayers are appreciated and welcome!
Diane

ReplyDeleteDiane, so sorry to read about your dh. My dh went through the chemo with colon cancer 10 years ago and also did radiation for prostate cancer about five years ago. He is now cancer free and doing fine. I just finished my radiation for breast cancer and I'm doing okay. It's a rough journey, but I'll be thinking of you and keeping you all in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Phyllis
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteDiane I messed up and wrote Alan I meant Ron.
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for the right person and God knew what I meant...
I had my own bump in the road one a three quarter years ago: at the time you feel the rug is pulled right out under you but here I am, fit and well. You and your family will have a lot of 'new normals' to get used to: sometimes more than one a day! Just go with the flow; take each day as it comes and live in the now. Don't worry about tomorrow. I am so sorry you are having to go through this but the treatments are amazing and more and more of us come out the other side, wiser and more appreciative of life.
ReplyDeleteTell hubby you don't get medals for being a martyr: any side effects with the chemo: tell the Drs. Nip them in the bud. They only become a problem if you leave them too long and believe me, chemo is very doable, it is not as bad as people think. Just lots of little niggles which vary with each treatment...dont be afraid to complain if you feel like crap: there will be medication to counteract all the potential side effects. And don't worry if some days you can't do the positive: people don't get cured smiling all the time: you are allowed to shout at the universe and have 'hide under the duvet' days...long as you get back out of there when your hissy fit is over lol xxxxxx
You can find my blog through this post if you want to chat. You are not alone.
((((hugs))))

ReplyDeleteHello, Diane,
ReplyDeleteI love your designs and have been following your posts - not commenting much though... Wishing you strength, patience and success in overcoming this "bump on the road." As Judy Dench said, " It will all turn out all right in the end. And if it's not all right, it's not yet the end."...
Best wishes,

Diane,
ReplyDeleteYou and your husband will be in my thoughts and prayers. I found out last summer that I have cancer...at 45 that was the last thing I expected to hear. My online cancer support group has this motto...just keep going. Take lots of notes and don't be afraid to ask questions. One year after diagnosis, I am doing great...the chemo was manageable for me. I have learned so much in this last year about what it really means to love and be loved.

That kind of news does knock you to your knees. Takes a bit of time to process and get beyond the shock. But oncologists are amazing and know all the tricks of the trade so to speak. You both will see progress and will be encouraged. Never hesitate to ask the doctors questions. They're on your side. Lots of hugs and prayers flying your way from Portland, OR.

We know it may come back but you take each step as it comes and deal with it. I wish your husband well and also yourself as it's not an easy journey to undertake. Don't jump too far ahead and just take each different stage of the journey a day at a time and stay positive. Ann in Scotland.

Sending prayers and good thoughts to your husband and family during this very difficult time. My brother was diagnosed with leukemia this summer, and we've experienced a "bump in the road" as we'll. he is doing well. I pray the same for your husband.
ReplyDeleteMany prayers are going your way. Mot only for your husband but for your family. A family shares the good times and the bad times. I am so glad you are putting him first. I am a loyal stitcher of your beautiful designs. Thank you for all you have given the needlework industry.

ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry. Prayers to you and your hubby and family. ♥
ReplyDeleteDear Diane, I'm so sorry to hear your news. My husband was diagnosed two years ago. He just finished his chemo, which he had a good response to. He kept to his regular schedule as much as possible and we found a lot of humor went a long way to keeping our spirits up! I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts. It is not fun, but you can get through it! I second the advice of others, keep in close contact with the doctors AND the nurses - they always have good advice to combat side effects. Take advantage of any extras your hospital may provide - massages, groups - it all helps. And-don't forget to take care of yourself, it is hard to see a loved one go through an illness and you need to renew your energy also!
ReplyDeleteLori
My dear Diane,

I am here for any kind of support you and your husband may need. It's what we do for each other. If you would like my email address, i'd be happy to send it.
