Do any of you remember stamped cross stitch? It's what I first stitched when I was a young girl. My mom ordered kits that arrived full of bundled threads in all colors that we sorted out and put on cardboard strips. This is one of those samplers that mom had finished. A number of years ago I found it in a closet at her house when we were going through things and I asked if she minded if I took it home. Her response was something like "why would you want that old faded sampler?" Personally I love old and faded and this one fit right into my house. It hangs on a wall where I see it every day. Do any of you have one of these old stamped samplers in your home or another "special" stitched piece from the past that you just won't part with?
Happy stitching. . . . . . . Diane
That's a very nice old stamped cross stitch sampler! I have seen some similar stamped samplers in red,but I don't have any.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI remember doing a dresser scarf with pink roses and blue ribbons, but I never finished it. I may have been in middle school -- no idea what happened to it. Wish now that I had finished it and still had it today.
I love the looks of that too! I have some of the first pieces I stitched when I was twelve - nothing like the skills of girls in times past, but I keep them just for me anyway!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely - I don't blame you for wanting to hang on to it. Being old and stitched by your mom makes it all the more special!:0)
ReplyDeleteOoooohhhh I really like this background! Looks nice. I too began stitching on the stamped samplers - at the age of 7. I have one from my husband's family that was also done by a child; not as nice as yours, but old and faded and dear, just the same.
ReplyDeleteDiane, your Mom's sampler is lovely...and special. I stitched a stamped sampler, "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" a long time ago. Hmmm, not sure if I still have it...I'll have to go looking for it! Really didn't like stamped...too difficult to cover the blue ink that did not wash out!
ReplyDeleteHi, Your stamped cross stitch sampler is lovely. I too remember a couple of ones my mother did and now they hang in both my daughters homes. When I was working in a nursing home in MO, I was given a gift of the stamped cross stitch Chase Sampler half done and I was thrilled to get it. The question is, should I finish it or frame it like it is? Margaret
ReplyDeleteMargaret if it were me, I'd finish it. With both of you having put in half of the stitching it would be a combined labor of love. :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother taught me to stitch using this type of sampler. I wish I still had them! Yours is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt has a stamped sampler that I did for her. Even though the coal stove smoke in her basement deteriorated some of the threads, she still has it up!
ReplyDeleteIt is magnificent! Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAccepted my friendship in any simplicity

Diane, your mom's sampler is beautiful! I have a few pieces stitched by my mom that hang in my house, and I wouldn't part with them! Nancy
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure!
