Sheep and yarn. . . . . a good combination

Without a doubt, this was the year of the sheep.
By December we will have released all twelve Little Sheep Virtues.

Not long after the first release (which was HOPE), I bought some sheep-like yarn and started a granny afghan.  Yes, another one.  You are probably wondering if I even know how to crochet anything else.  I do. . . .but don't want to!  I love grannies!

The yarn is Lion Brand Homespun and is a bit of a handful to work with.  The results however are worthwhile.  I say this as I get the cobwebs off of the project.  I put it away when the weather warmed up.  In Arizona, yarn and summer just don't match up well.

The two sheepy colors I chose were Barley and Pearls.  I didn't use a pattern . . . just created it the way I do all granny squares with one exception. . . . .I decreased the center joined circle by one chain (I did four and then joined the circle)  and I also decreased the corners by one. . . . two instead of three chains.  The center gets too big and loopy if you chain five and the corners get out of share if you chain three.

It's cooling off so I wanted to get it out again and get going on the squares.  I may just finish it before summer 2014!

Happy Stitching. . . . .

Finished afghan

A few of you have requested to see a photo of the finished afghan. . . . . the one I switched from primarily black to dominate cream coloring.  It turned out beautiful using Vanna's Choice that I picked up at Michael's.  It's throw size. . . . .just perfect for little 'ole me when chilly nights arrive (if they ever do).

There isn't a pattern for the color scheme but you can see I simply alternated two blocks, swapping the cream and green with each other in the centers but then keeping the black and gold consistent in all of the blocks.  Instructions for granny squares can be found for free on the internet.

Do you remember my Granny Square Afghan?

A while back I bought yarn to create an old fashioned granny afghan.  Well, it fell into the category of UFO, collected some dust and then was remembered by me a year and a half later.  I think I had put it away because I just didn't like all of the black (even though I decorate with a LOT of black).  And too, if you own a dog that sheds a lot (me, me, me!), you know black seems to be a magnet.  So in showing a friend my squares, it occurred to me to simply change the direction and make the dominate color the beige that was already in each square.

It had taken on a completely different look by emphasizing the beige.  All that is left is the joining and the border!  For anyone interested in colors, you will need the following in Vanna's Choice by Lion Brand: Honey, Beige, Black and Dusty Green.

Happy Stitching,
