Plant a Garden With Thread!

Oh how I wish we could have a garden!  A good friend of mine is busy planting hers in a state far away where the soil is rich and the conditions perfect for seeds and new plants.  As for me, gardens need to stay on blog backgrounds (see the new wallpaper?) and on linen!

If you are like me and can't plant a garden, or simply don't have a green thumb, take a peek at these LHN designs and see if there is one here that takes the place of a real garden!

My Discovery!

I think we all need a little organization when stitching a project.  Each time I start something new I look for the right floss storage as every project is unique.

The one I am working on right now is an upcoming reproduction so I'm stitching with silk which I always put in the convenient "Floss-A-Way" bags sold in needlework stores.  Usually I put them on a ring because each bag has a hole in the corner.  I don't remember why I tried it but I slipped one of the bags into the pocket in our "Fresh From the Garden" needlebook and it fit!  They are all in there now and it's keeping me very organized while I stitch.

The Tomato

Last week my market models for "Fresh from the Garden" arrived from their trip to Nashville.  The pouch and tomato were put into my stitching box (see previous post) and put to use right away.  Then yesterday I had a different idea for the tomato and and I just love it so I'm sharing it with all of you.
I had previously purchased a distressed off-white candle stand from Pottery Barn (by now you all know that's my favorite store).
I set the tomato pincushion on top but it looked a little lost.
So I added a small crochet doily and the whole thing became a piece of functional art for my desk!  Ask anyone who has ever seen my desk. . . . . I have needles and pins stuck in coasters, fabric scraps and even paper.  If the doily was green it might even look like lettuce but I don't think I'll take it that far!
If you want to make one for yourself just look for a candle stand you like that will work in your room.  Just make sure the top is not too big.
Happy Stitching,
Diane

2011 Nashville Release! Fresh From the Garden!

FRESH FROM THE GARDEN!

We've gone country and planted a garden in rich,
dark colors that I know so many of you love!!!

Little House Needleworks, Impie, Hattie & Bea, Crescent Colours and Hoffman Distributing are happy to bring you our newest release, Fresh From the Garden!  The pattern includes both charts, one for the framed design and one for the inside of the needlebook cover.  The pack also includes the Crescent Colours thread you need to stitch both designs.  The fabric, which is 30 count Straw linen from Weeks Dye Works is purchased separately as is the needlebook/tomato set made by Impie, Hattie, & Bea.  The outside of the needlebook is a deep hunter green.  The black fleamarket styled frame is from Crescent Colours and can be ordered through your local shop.  The flower you see at the bottom of the frame is at the top too!

Happy Stitching,
